Find Free Images
Reminder: Using images in the public domain does not require copyright permission or a fee, but you should always cite the source of the image and its owner.
- PubMed CentralSearch for your topic, then select Images on the right side of the page to view all images. Select an individual image to view its copyright restrictions (most are open access).
- Creative Commons SearchSearch for images that you can use non-commercially, commercially, edit/modify, etc. Enter your search topic and then select one image database at a time (e.g. Google Images, Flickr, Wikimedia, etc.).
- Noun ProjectA comprehensive collection of icons and art-quality photographs. Some images are free and others require payment or subscription.
- PEIR Digital LibraryPEIR Digital Library (Pathology Education Instructional Resource) is a multidisciplinary public access image database for use in medical education. Produced by the University of Alabama. Copyright and usage information statements must be included in any presentation.
- National Cancer Institute VisualsOnlineContains images from the collections of the Office of Communications and Education and Office of Media Relations, National Cancer Institute. Contents include general biomedical and science-related images, cancer-specific, scientific and patient care-related images. Visuals Online currently provides public access to 3,276 images. Most images are in the public domain and may be used without permission.
- Google ImagesEnter .gov in the "Site or Domain" search box to restrict your search to government websites (where most content is in the public domain and copyright-free).
- Wikimedia CommonsMost images on this site have Creative Commons licenses. Click on a picture to view its licensing information.
- MorgueFileMany images on this site allow copying, distribution, and adapting. Select an image to view its usage rights.
