Baystate Medical Center has limited on-campus housing and parking for medical students. Housing is available on a first come-first serve basis.

Amenities

The Division of Academic Affairs oversees 4 medical student houses located within a 3-minute walk of the main campus of the hospital. Medical student housing is set-up suite style, with approximately 3-5 individual bedrooms per floor.  Each floor contains a kitchen, and bathroom. Each house has at least one living room with a large screen TV, basic cable, and wireless internet capability.

The houses are spacious and comfortable, allowing students the ability to both relax and study without the inconvenience of a long commute.

Maintenance

Cleaning staff oversees the daily upkeep of each house and provides students with a regular supply of bedroom linens and bathroom towels. Laundry facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Engineering and Environmental Services Staff are available for housing issues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Parking and Shuttle Service

  • All students should park in the Center "C" Lot
  • Shuttles run approximately every 15 minutes Monday 3am - Friday 11:30p
  • This shuttle will bring you to/from the main BMC employee entrance, 759 Chestnut Street (you will need your ID badge to enter).  Please look for designated Baystate buses marked C Lot.   
  • No shuttle service on Weekends or BH Observed Holidays
  • Beginning 3:00 pm on Friday through 3:00 am on Monday you may park in the Daly Garage.
  • Security officers are on duty 24/7 and can be reached at 794-5534 if you have any issues

Arriving at Baystate

Park in the Visitor’s Parking lot across from the Daly Building entrance.

Enter through the main patient entrance of the Daly Building. Proceed down the corridor past the gift shop, and Radiology. Just past the patient elevators is an intersection of corridors. Cross the hall to the corridor with the orange and white floor, take right at end of hall. Take first set of elevators on right to ground level. Go right once off elevator.  Take a RIGHT at the NEAREST (short) hallway.  You’ve arrived at the Security Command Center, CG345!

Pick up your ID and parking pass in the Security Command Center located on the ground floor of the Springfield Building (CG345). The center is open 24/7.

During your rotation, you will be required to park your assigned location.

Coming & Going - You may access your room any time on the Sunday prior to the start date of your elective. All on-campus rooms must be vacated by 1:00pm on the last day of your rotation. Please plan accordingly.

MAIL - Personal mail cannot be delivered to the medical student houses. Mail should be addressed as: “Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut Street, c/o NAME – Medical Student, Springfield, MA 01199”.

Maintenance – For maintenance issues, please contact the UME office Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. After hours and on weekends, please call the Security Command Center at (413) 794-5534; they will page the maintenance person on-call.

Laundry Facilities – Coinless washers and dryers are located in the basement of 35 Pratt Street.  Students staying in housing are assigned a "G51" key to access the laundry/back door of 35 Pratt Street.

STUDENT HOUSING RULES

The following are not allowed in student housing:

• Alcohol

• Gas-Powered Equipment

• Pets

• Toaster ovens

• Halogen lamps

• Candles

• Space heaters

• Flammable liquids

• Incense

• Quartz heaters

 

All Baystate Health property is SMOKE FREE and FRAGRENCE FREE

• Put dirty linens in the receptacles provided.

• Wipe down counters and the microwave. Keep cereals, crackers, and other like items stored in plastic containers.

• Label your food and throw it out at the end of your rotation. Environmental Services does not clean out the refrigerators.

• Do not move furniture from one room to another.

• Park in your assigned parking space. Failure to do so may result in your car being ticketed or towed. Do not leave valuables in your car.

• Lock all doors at all times.

• Baystate does not assume responsibility for lost or stolen property.

• Be considerate of your housemates and keep the noise to a minimum. Keep in mind that someone may have just come off an overnight shift.

 

Last day of your rotation: You must vacate your room by 1pm

• Return house keys and ID badges as instructed

• Return any scrubs provided by Baystate Medical Center

• Return pagers to clinical department

• Return books to library

 

Other Important Info:

• Wireless internet access is available. DO NOT DISCONNECT/ADD any devices from the cable boxes, doing so will result in confiscation of equipment.

• Mail cannot be delivered to the student houses. Please have sent c/o (Your Name), Medical Student Housing, Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01199.

• Students are responsible for checking the mail room, located on the ground floor of the Springfield Building. Mail not retrieved after 2 weeks will be returned to sender. Mail incorrectly addressed will be returned to sender.

• Security provides an ESCORT SERVICE to any person requesting an escort to his/her car or house. To request an escort, call Security at x4-5534.

Report any housing issues to the UME office at 413-794-4280. After 4:30 pm or on weekends, please call security.

You are required to meet with your department contact on the last day of your rotation to turn in your beeper, ID badge, and house keys. An email reminder will be sent to you during the last week of your rotation with a check list that must be signed by the coordinator. (Note: If you are working a shift that day. Please empty your room and store your belongs in your car or common area in the house.)

Students staying for a consecutive rotation will stay in the same room and may keep their ID and house keys.
