Community Benefits: Addressing the Health Needs of Our Community: BMC Community Benefits Programs

The Behavioral Health Services of Baystate Health, a service of Baystate Medical Center, offers comprehensive mental health, substance abuse, behavioral medicine and employee assistance programs that are responsive to today's changing health care system.

In collaboration with the pediatric medical specialists, Baystate Child Behavioral Health, a service of Baystate Medical Center, offers comprehensive psychiatric and psychological services for children, adolescents, and their families facing acute and chronic medical conditions.

The Baystate Health Diversity Council is an internal body composed of carefully chosen employees who represent a broad cross-section of the organization. This council leads the overall integration of diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence strategies and establishes, monitors, and ensures action focused on building an evermore diverse, inclusive, and culturally competent organization.

The Baystate Family Advocacy Center (BFAC) of Baystate Health is a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center (CAC) serving the children, families and communities of Western Massachusetts affected by child abuse, domestic violence and/or homicide. As child abuse, domestic violence and homicide are community problems the FAC coordinates services with our community partners.

Baystate High Street Health Center - Pediatrics is part of Baystate Health's board certified team of pediatricians, many of whom are nationally recognized for their expertise in patient care, clinical research, and medical education. Our physicians serve on the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine.

The Interpreter Services Department provides trained medical interpreters 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help medical staff communicate with limited English proficient (LEP), deaf and hard-of-hearing patients and their families. The department provides services throughout Baystate Health.

MIGHTY (moving, improving, and gaining health together at the YMCA) is a 6 month long group program with strong emphasis placed on physical activity, nutrition and behavioral change for the entire family. It includes a fitness evaluation, individual fitness prescriptions, group exercise sessions, individual and group nutritional counseling and strategies for lifelong behavior change. Families who participate in MIGHTY also receive a free 6 month long membership to the Springfield based YMCA. In order for a child to be enrolled in MIGHTY they must first be evaluated at the Pediatric Weight Management Program.

General Obstetrics and Gynecology is the largest division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Composed of physicians and nurse practitioners, our two largest outpatient offices are Baystate Wesson Women’s Group and Wesson Women’s Clinic. Our physicians are on the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine and keep current on the latest innovations in obstetrics and gynecology by teaching both medical students and residents, and participating in clinical research.

Baystate/Springfield Educational Partnership (BSEP) builds relationships with interested and committed students from the Springfield Public Schools and guides these students' experiences and academic paths towards careers in the medical field.
